HOMILIES IN ENGLISH

» 2022-2023 Year A English / December
God the Son who existed from all eternity with the Father became man and lived and died among us for our salvation
Persecution was central to Jesus’ life, even in his infancy
Jesus’ presentation in the temple is a prefiguration of his saving offering of himself on the cross for the sins of the world
The Savior of the world was born not in Nazareth but Bethlehem, the city of David, for he is the heir to his everlasting throne
The father of John the Baptist learned much by the affliction he suffered for his lack of faith
God overlooked the noble Judean descendants of David and instead chose a poor virgin from Nazareth to be the mother of the Messiah
Zechariah’s son (John the Baptist) will be great before the Lord to make ready for the Lord a people prepared
Mary will have a son whom Joseph is to call Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins
Jesus is the legal son of David through his stepfather Joseph, and therefore the heir to David’s everlasting throne
John the Baptist was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light
Jesus’ friendship for John the Baptist remained constant, even when he was sitting in Herod’s prison
Mary went with haste and joy into the hill country of Judah to tell Elizabeth that she will be the mother of the Messiah
Although John the Baptist was the greatest among those born of women, the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he
Elijah has returned in the person of John the Baptist to prepare the way of the Lord and make his paths straight
Many accepted neither John the Baptist nor Jesus, calling the one a madmen and the other a drunkard
Mary will bear a son who will inherit the throne of his father David and reign over the house of Jacob forever
We must repent to prepare for the Lord’s coming, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand
Jesus has compassion on the crowds and so sends his twelve apostles to preach the good news to them and heal their infirmities
In the days of the Messiah, out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind shall see and the meek shall obtain fresh joy in the Lord
Just calling on the Lord alone, without doing his will, will not assure your salvation
